The FS Italiane Group has developed an ambitious programme to relaunch the freight business in its new 2019-2023 Business Plan.
Following the positive results of last year’s provisions for the entire railway system by the Ministry of Infrastructures that encourage freight transport on alternative routes to the road, the 2020 Italian Budget Law provides for the renewal of two initiatives for the next two years in favour of those who undertake more environmentally-friendly modes of freight transport than road, Ferrobonus and Marebonus.
The agreement will last for four years (2019-2022). The service involves about 30 trains per week within Italy, mainly on the Ravenna - Gazoldo degli Ippoliti/Casalmaggiore line, and international lines between Italy and Germany/Poland/Serbia.
Two years after the commencement of the cooperation between FFS Cargo and ÖBB Rail Cargo Group, to which Mercitalia Rail (Polo Mercitalia — FS Italiane Group) subsequently joined, the balance proves to be largely positive. The rail transport companies collaborated with PJM in the implementation of a brake test and the integration of the system.
